Right now this site does one thing: it collects email addresses for a mailing list. This page describes that, in the same words we would use if you asked us directly.
What we collect when you join the list
- Your email address.
- Which lane you picked, if you picked one.
- The time you submitted the form.
- Your IP address and browser user-agent string, and how long the page had been open before you submitted it. These exist to tell a person from a bot, and nothing else.
What we do with it
Submissions are written to private storage on Amazon Web Services in the US, then loaded into our own mailing-list software, which we host ourselves rather than renting from a marketing platform. You get one email asking you to confirm — if you don't confirm, you never hear from us again and the address goes no further.
We mail you about The Thorn Post: the launch, the first run, and the occasional letter. Every message has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade your address. Not to anyone, at any price.
- We don't send you someone else's marketing.
- We don't run advertising pixels, embedded widgets, or third-party fonts. The only request this page makes to another company is Google Analytics — see below.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which parts of the page people actually read, plus how quickly the page loads for real visitors. That data is not linked to your email address, and we don't use it to build a profile of you. If you block analytics, everything on this site still works.
How long we keep it
Raw form submissions are deleted from storage once they have been loaded into the mailing list, and are automatically deleted after 90 days regardless. Your address stays on the mailing list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
Getting your data, or getting rid of it
Email hello@thethornpost.com and ask. We will tell you what we hold about you, or delete it, without making you explain why. Deletion is permanent — we cannot restore a list entry after removing it.
Age
Our books are for adults, and this list is for adults. Please don't sign up if you are under 18.
Changes to this page
If what we collect changes, this page changes on the same day, and the date at the top moves with it.
